The 2008 Hibbing Winter Frolic carries on a tradition with roots as far back as the 1920's, making the event the longest running of our community celebrations. The present Winter Frolic Committee continues the goal of the original festival to create fun and excitement throughout the community during the long winter season.

As part of the festivity and to fund the event, local high school girls, each sponsored by a Hibbing business or organization, sell Passport to Frolic books and buttons, generating income for activities ranging from an illuminated skiing night to a family fun day and giant treasure hunt.

Judged on poise, personality, academics, community involvement, and appearance, the girls vie for the title of Winter Frolic Queen and the privilege of representing the City of Hibbing for the next year.

Since 1962 a male Titan of Taconite has been selected from men deemed to have made significant contributions to the community to serve as a reminder of our mining heritage and as an ambassador for Hibbing.

Feb. 1 Iluminated Ski
Carey Lake: North Loop @ 6:00 PM. Refreshments and bonfire. Coordinated by the Range Nordic Gliders, sponsored by Max Grey Construction.

Feb. 2 Ice Fishing Contest
Carey Lake: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Free snowmobile rides. $10 Per Adult plus 2008 Winter Frolic Button. Children 12 & Under Free if Accompanied by a Winter Frolic Button Holder.

Feb. 2 Frolic Family Royale
Downtown Hibbing @ Rockefeller Plaza by City Hall & Basement of the Hibbing Public Library. 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides.
Kids' Treasure Hunt. (Kids ages 3-8 @ 3:00 PM)
Skating & Free Concessions.
Open to the public. Admittance by Winter Frolic Button.

Feb. 3 Giant Treasure Hunt Begins
The Treasure Disc lies hidden on public land somewhere in Hibbing. Whoever finds the disc wins a $1000 bond. Clues appear in the Daily Tribune and on winterfrolic.com. You must have a Winter Frolic Button to search for the treasure.
