Hibbing Winter Frolic
2019

Meet the 2019 Titan of Taconite
Cathy Baudeck!
Cathy Baudeck has been a registered nurse for 50 years. She earned her nursing degree from St. Therese School of Nursing with a minor in mental health services. She moved to Hibbing around 1975.
From 1977 to 1982, Baudeck worked for Virginia Regional Medical Center, during which time she established, implemented and directed the first in-patient mental health unit on the Iron Range. She also created the educational programs to train staff in theory and operations in providing mental health services.
Between 1979 to 1982, Baudeck served as a mental health nursing consultant for the Veterans Administration Northern Minnesota. In that role, she developed home and community-based services for all veterans in Northern Minnesota, allowing veterans to receive community coordinated care in their homes and receive clinic services on the Range and Duluth. Another duty was inspecting and approving all nursing homes that had contracts that serve veterans in Northern Minnesota.

In 1981, the Baudecks opened Home Health Care Services in Hibbing. Serving the entire Iron Range, they worked to enable patients needing nursing, home health aide assistance, medical equipment and oxygen services to stay in their homes. They ran the business until 2012.
In 1985, Baudeck assisted in helping establish the first State of Minnesota personal care organization on the Iron Range, assisting people with disabilities and the elderly with non-medical care programs to stay in their homes and prevent early admissions to nursing homes. Baudeck then directed her expertise toward expanding “special needs transportation” programs to serve people on the Range, Northern Minnesota and statewide, assisting people in getting to and from doctor appointments or specialized facilities for medical care.
Cathy has held seats on various statewide task forces and commissions focusing on the development of rules, and guidelines for the implementation of state statutes in Health and Human Services Programs between 1984 to 1990. They included: Minnesota Board of Aging, Department of Human Services “Home and Community based Waiver Services” Task Force, Department of Human Services “Disability Service” Task Force and Minnesota Department of Health “Homecare Licensure” Task Force.
Baudeck is also a past member of Soroptimist International, past board member of Hibbing Chamber of Commerce, and past president and current member of Hibbing Rotary Club.
Cathy is now employed as the PCA Choice Manager at Access North's main office in Hibbing, helping seniors and people with disabilities live independently in their homes by providing home health care services.
