Each year a Winter Frolic button has been designed and sold by the Winter Frolic candidates. The Winter Frolic celebration has been funded solely through the sale of these buttons and the sponsorship of each girl by a business or organization. Over the years, thousands of dollars have been awarded in scholarships to the incoming royalty.

 

Winter Frolic has always solicited out-of-town judges in the selection of royalty. During its history, Winter Frolic candidates have captured titles such as; Miss Minnesota Universe, Miss Minnesota Teen and Aquatennial Princess. Winter Frolic candidates are equally judged on the basis of personality, poise, academics, community involvement, and appearance.

 

The Winter Frolic Senior Citizen King and Queen contest started in 1973 by Dave Oxman and Thelma Mattson. The first to be crowned were Queen Santi Amistadi and King Arnold Ellingson.

 

The first Winter Frolic Fishing Contest was held in 1995 and continues to this day (weather and ice conditions permitting).
